This depends on the cylinder type and the standard it's tested under. Industrial and fire extinguisher cylinders are typically due periodic inspection every few years. Check the date stamped on your cylinder, or send us the details and we'll confirm when it's next due.

Cylinders are stamped, usually near the neck or shoulder, with a date mark showing when they were last tested — typically month and year, often alongside the test house's identification mark. If you're not sure how to read the marks on a particular cylinder, send us a photo and we'll help.

An external examination of the cylinder shell, an internal examination once the valve is removed, a hydrostatic test to confirm the cylinder holds pressure safely, inspection of the valve and any pressure-relief device, and stamping and certification for cylinders that pass. The Pi mark shows a cylinder has been assessed and periodically inspected in line with EU transportable pressure equipment requirements, allowing it to be used and moved within the EU. Exact regulatory wording is being verified before this answer is finalised for publish.

It depends on which body carried out the test. Since Brexit, inspection by a body appointed under Great Britain's own regime is recognised for use in Great Britain, but typically doesn't carry EU (Pi-mark) validity on its own. This concerns Great Britain specifically — Northern Ireland sits under different arrangements. If you're not sure where your cylinders stand, send us the details and we'll advise. Yes. Once a cylinder has passed inspection and testing, we fill it on site so it's ready to use when it leaves us — industrial and welding gases, beverage CO2 and mixed gas, extinguisher CO2, fire suppression agents, breathing air and LPG, with no restrictions on cylinder type. We are the only facility in Ireland that is ISO 18119, TPED and ADR compliant and equipped to handle fire suppression system cylinders. ISO 18119 is the international standard for periodic inspection and testing of seamless steel and aluminium alloy gas cylinders; TPED is the EU Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive under which cylinders keep their Pi-mark validity; and ADR compliance means we are fully compliant for the carriage of dangerous goods by road, so collections and deliveries are legal end to end.

Yes — and we are the only facility in Ireland equipped to do so. We handle FM-200, Novec 1230, inert gas (IG-541, IG-55, IG-100) and CO2 total-flooding system cylinders for periodic testing, servicing, agent refilling and decommissioning. See our fire suppression page.

Don't put them in a skip or bring them to a scrap yard — a cylinder can hold gas at pressure for decades. We collect old, damaged, failed-test and unidentified cylinders from anywhere in Ireland, identify and safely manage any residual gas, decommission the cylinder so it can never be refilled, recycle the metal, and issue a certificate of disposal for your records.
